Macaroni Kid's Stay-cation Special!

Featuring Sesame Place!

By Laura Shultz July 20, 2012
As kids we grew up watching Sesame Street, and our kids grow up watching Sesame Street. They are the first characters we come to know. Elmo seems to be every child's first love. So, it's no surprise that Sesame Place, located in Langhorne Pa is a favorite destination of children, parents, and grandparents. Especially in this economy when taking a week long vacation to Disney World may not be in our budgets, stay-cations have become more popular and Sesame Place is definitely the place to visit for a stay-cation right here in Pa.

My family and I were provided with tickets to go to Sesame Place this past week in exchange for a review of their location. Sesame Place is a tradition in my family. I think we have gone every year since my youngest was was born. We may have missed one year, but we try not to. We love that we can get away at a family friendly location without having to drive hours and hours to get there.

We went this past Friday, July 13th. When we go we like to get there right when it opens as it does get crowded rather quickly. We usually hit up the water park first. The Sky Splash ride is the first thing we always do! After climbing up to the top of a huge water slide you climb aboard a large raft that can easily fit 6-8 people and then you glide down the large water slide in the raft as it ends with a huge slide at the end and a big splash. You can take very little ones on this ride, as long as they are in your lap, and adults can enjoy this ride as well.

The water park features many other tube rides, slides, and a wonderful three section shallow 'kiddie pool" called the Tiny Tidal Wave. It doesn't go deeper than two-three feet in any of the areas, and much of it is less than two feet so younger children who can't yet swim can still play and have a great time while their parents can relax in the lounge chairs. I have to say that the Count's Splash Castle water area is the absolute best part! Your children will have the most fun there! A whole area of water slides, spraying water, things to climb and play on while water goes over you, and a HUGE bucket of water that fills up and topples over to the crowd standing below it when it gets full of all of the water spraying everywhere. My kids would have stayed in that part ALL day if I would have let them. However, it was time to move onto the dry rides and amusements.

The Tiny Tidal Wave Pool

From the Elmo Flying Fish, Peekabug, Blast Off and the Elmo's Cloud Chaser swings, and of course the rope course called NEt and Climbs there is still plenty more to do in the non water section. And that list doesn't even touch upon what else there is to offer! We loved the rides because once again while geared toward children they are still fun for the grown ups too! Not to mention they keep them moving quickly so there is never too much of a wait. Our day ended with seeing the parade down Sesame Street (the main st at Sesame Place of course!!!) Every day at 3pm is the parade! (There is another one in the evening). The park goers line either side of Sesame Street and watch as Elmo, Zoe, The Count, Big Bird, and all of their friends sing and dance and perform for the crowd. The parade is always one of the highlights of the day.

My daughter, Lily age four. Enjoying the Carousel.

If you go I reccomend doing two days. There was still so much more for us to see and do! There is an Elmo's World live show, and other musical shows in the park at different times during the day. The characters also walk around the park on days when it's not to hot so that your children can meet and greet and take pictures with them!
Don't forget to visit the gift shop on your way out! From cute character mugs with your child's name on them, to stuffed characters to Tshirts and hats, they have it all!

Sesame Place is open April through December with different attractions throughout the year. Most summer hours are 10-8 or 9pm with hours varying during the other seasons.
