Rainbow Lacing Craft

By Kimberly Vees April 23, 2013
Teaching kids to tie their shoes is often a task that parents dread.  Today with most youth shoes being velcro or lace-less it is a tough thing to teach.  Here is a lacing craft that can be fun to make and help them to learn the art of tying at the same time!

Supplies you will need:

1 piece of heavy paper or cardstock (white)
red, yellow, blue and green crayons
scissors
hole punch
red, yellow, blue and green ribbon or yarn

Instructions:

1.  Print out the Rainbow template on a piece of heavy duty paper or card stock.  Click Here for Rainbow Template.
2.  Cut out the Rainbow or have your child cut it out.
3.  Color the Rainbow.
4.  Punch holes on black dots.
5.  Have your child thread the yarn/ribbon through the holes.
6.  Tie bows at the clouds.

After your child has mastered the basic thread/bow concept, have them use different stitches to complete their lacing project.  (X stitch, blanket stitch etc.)

To make your rainbow a little sturdier, laminate it before punching the holes!
