Can't Go to the Theater? Let the Theater Come To You!

I love going to New York to see musicals on Broadway, but of course, I haven't been able to do that for a while now. Luckily, there are ones you can stream from home, and while it's definitely not the same, I am going to share with you some tips so you can still have a memorable night "on Broadway". With just a little planning, you can have a fun date night at home.

Here are 16 musicals you can watch at home:

  1. Pippen - Available on Amazon Prime
  2. Carousel - Available on Amazon Prime
  3. Guys and Dolls - Available on Amazon Prime
  4. How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying - Available on Amazon Prime
  5. Funny Face - Available on Amazon Prime
  6. Newsies - Available on Disney+
  7. The Sound of Music - Available on Disney+
  8. Hamilton - Available on Disney+
  9. West Side Story - Available on Hulu
  10. Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Available on Hulu
  11. Rocketman - Available on Hulu
  12. Les Miserables - Available on Netflix
  13. Fiddler on the Roof - Available on Netflix
  14. Jersey Boys - Available on Netflix
  15. The Producers - Available on Netflix
  16. White Christmas - Available on Netflix

1. Choose which show you want to watch

Depending on which one you choose, you can create a night of fun based on a theme, or just keep the theme of "Broadway at Home". Are you doing this as a surprise for someone else? Create your own tickets (Canva is a great online photo making program that you can use for free), and give them to your partner as a surprise.

2. Get dressed up

Just like you would for a night on the town, get dressed up to enjoy the evening at home. Make it as true to the real experience as possible.

3. Decorate

You can decorate based on the production you chose, such as getting out Christmas decorations to watch "White Christmas" or go with a patriotic theme if you are going to watch "Hamilton". Or, you could make a red carpet and put up some white twinkling lights leading to your living room.

4. Plan the menu

Are you going to have a nice dinner before the show? Perhaps this is a great time to get curbside pickup from a local restaurant you've been wanting to try, or theme your menu around the musical you will watch, such as having Weiner Schnitzel if you will be enjoying "The Sound of Music". Not worrying about dinner first? No problem, but you may want to have a few snacks on hand for the intermission... have popcorn or candy, and maybe a special drink to make it more fun, like a Dulce de Leche if you'll be watching "Guys and Dolls".

Encore!
