With SmileDirectClub You Can Keep on Smiling!

By Jennifer Schorr, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Reading November 11, 2020

In the lyrics sung by Frank Sinatra, "Keep on smiling 'cause when you're smiling the whole world smiles with you." And no words have ever been more true than with SmileDirectClub. When you're not happy with your smile, you tend to hide it from the world, but with SmileDirectClub, you can have a more confident smile and show it off!

Unlike me, my husband, Jason, did not have braces as a child. The truth is, his teeth just weren't crooked enough to warrant them (lucky!) I, on the other hand, had no choice and had to deal with the visits to the orthodontist every 4-6 weeks, for 2.5 years. It's not the most convenient thing, not to mention the pain after getting them tightened each time (and we won't even talk about the lip bumper that was oh-so-NOT-attractive!)

But my husband wasn't 100% satisfied with his smile. He has one tooth on top that sticks out a bit from all the rest and a few others that are just not lined up perfectly, so when given the chance to try the aligners from SmileDirectClub, he was completely on-board. He only had to visit the SmileShop one time, for his initial visit (click here to read all about his visit). If you don't want to visit the SmileShop in person, you don't have to, because SmileDirectClub also offers at-home impression kits as an alternative way to get started on your smile journey. Talk about convenience!

Customers can get 50% off impression kits with code AFF50.

Jason's box arrived, which meant it was time to get started! In the box were all the aligners he would need for his treatment (meaning no more visits to the SmileShop!) Each set of aligners came individually packaged, clearly labeled with how long he needs to wear them. The box also contained a tray to keep the aligners in when he isn't wearing them (which is only while he's eating and brushing his teeth), and a tool to help take the aligners out, which my husband said is definitely needed since the aligners fit very snug.

The question everyone is wondering is, "Does it hurt?" My husband said that when he put in the first aligner, it was very snug and it felt like there was pressure, which makes sense because it's moving your teeth to where they should be. He also said that after only two days he could already sense an improvement, and the discomfort had eased almost completely. When it was time to switch to the second set of aligners, the pressure returned, but it wasn't as significant as the first set.

He has been wearing the aligners for two weeks now, and he says they feel tight, but there is no pain. He only takes them out when he is eating and brushing his teeth, and I don't notice any difference in the way he talks. Another bonus - they're clear, so they are barely noticeable.
