My husband makes the best beer brats you have ever tasted. Before he came around I wouldn't have touched a bratwurst with a ten-foot pole. The few I had tried were dry and just not for me. This recipe changed all that!
Ingredients:
- Johnsonville's Original Bratwurst (you could use any brand but we like Johnsonville)
- 3 or 4 cans of beer
- 1 Vidalia onion (or any white onion)
- 2 tbsp butter
- Deli Mustard
- Sauerkraut
- Potato Rolls
Direction:
- Melt the butter in a big pot and slice up the onion into rings.
- Add the onions to the melted butter and let them sweat for a couple of minutes.
- Add brats and enough beer to cover them and the onions. Let them simmer for 45 minutes.
- Grill the brats on low heat until nice and brown.
- Return brats to the same pot of yummy onions and beer and simmer for about 30 minutes.
- Serve 'em up.
Make the ultimate brat with a potato roll, deli mustard, brat, and sauerkraut. Potato rolls have a slightly sweet taste that works great in contrast to the brat and sauerkraut. Brats dry out really easily, so the key to what makes this recipe so great is to simmer them before AND after grilling.
