Making a cake or pastry that is sinfully scrumptious AND beautiful does not have to be a chore. This elegant looking version of cinnamon rolls is a wonderful addition to any Christmas breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 loaves of frozen bread dough (thawed and at room temperature)
- ½ cup of light brown sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 stick salted butter (melted and cooled)
- 2 T. cinnamon
- flour
- walnuts or pecans (optional)
- icing (optional) (I use confectioners sugar and milk)
Directions:
- Lightly grease a 12-inch pizza pan.
- Divide dough into 3 equal parts.
- Mix Sugars and Cinnamon in a bowl and set aside.
- On a lightly floured surface roll out 1 section of dough into a 12-inch circle. Place in greased pan and cover with ½ melted butter. Sprinkle with ½ of cinnamon/sugar mixture.
- Roll out the second section of dough and place it on top of first. Spread with remaining butter then sprinkle with remaining sugar mixture.
- Roll out the third section of dough and place it on top.
- Place a small glass in the middle of the circle and using a serrated knife make 16 equal pie-shaped wedges.
- Gently twist each wedge 4 times to create a spiral. Remove the glass.
- Cover dough loosely with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until almost doubled in size.
- Heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Uncover dough, sprinkle with nuts and bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and cool. When completely cool drizzle with icing if desired!
