Chick-Fil-A Exeter Offering New Breakfast Items

New choices aimed to suit regional tastes

July 30, 2013
READING, Pa.—Beginning Monday, July 22, Chick-fil-A at Exeter Commons will invite its guests to be among the first in the nation to sample new breakfast items that the chain is considering adding to the menu. The Greater Philadelphia-area is one of three markets nationwide where the Atlanta-based restaurant chain is conducting a limited-time trial to evaluate the potential new menu items.
Chick-fil-A continues its commitment to menu innovation by recognizing the tastes of customers from the Northeast to the West Coast by offering new breakfast breads and more than just chicken for breakfast. The new breakfast items will be offered at 63 Greater Philadelphia-area locations, as well as the chain’s restaurants located in Inland Empire, Calif., and central Georgia. The market test will continue through November 2.
Chick-fil-A’s new breakfast offerings include:

  • Sausage, Egg & Cheese English Muffin: A pork sausage patty, folded egg and cheese served on a toasted English muffin.
  • Maple Waffle: A sweet Belgian-style waffle with a unique caramelized sugar crunch. The waffle is baked with maple syrup inside – no additional syrup is required, making it a perfect choice for kids and customers on-the-go.
  • Cinnamon Biscuit Roll: A cinnamon breakfast pastry inspired by Chick-fil-A’s made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuit, served warm with cream cheese icing.
  • Bacon, Egg & Cheese Bagel: Strips of smoked Applewood bacon, folded egg and cheese served on a toasted New York-style bagel.
  • A toasted bagel with cream cheese or an English muffin with jelly will also be available.
Each breakfast sandwich can be ordered with the customer’s choice of meat (bacon, sausage or chicken) and bread (English muffin, bagel or biscuit).
In conjunction with the introduction of the breakfast items, Chick-fil-A is replacing grapes with blueberries in its popular Fruit Cup, which is a nutritious mix that also includes mandarin orange segments, fresh strawberries, and red and green apple pieces. The Fruit Cup is prepared daily and served chilled in a variety of sizes. Chick-fil-A was the first quick-service restaurant to introduce a fruit cup as a standard side dish.
“We have made significant strides in growing the breakfast day part over the last several years,” said Amanda Norris, Chick-fil-A’s director of product development. “We know we need a variety of offerings to accommodate various taste preferences as we move into new parts of the country. Varying our breakfast menu beyond our signature Chicken Biscuits will provide more choice for customers. We are excited about adding these new menu items to our breakfast day part.”
Although Chick-fil-A has always offered a breakfast menu, the chain first realized the potential of breakfast in the 1980s when it opened its first free-standing restaurants. Before then, Chick-fil-A was a mall-based chain with limited breakfast choices. Now that Chick-fil-A’s free-standing restaurant growth has surpassed its mall locations, breakfast accounts for nearly 17 percent of the chain’s overall sales. Its more diverse breakfast menu also will complement the chain’s aggressive restaurant growth in the northern and western regions of the country over the next several years.
