Mac Kid Movie Review: Zootopia

While it may not have tugged at my son's heart, Disney's "Zootopia" certainly tugged at mine right from the start. The movie features Judy Hopps, a high-spirited bunny who is not afraid to try to follow her dreams of becoming a police officer, even though no bunny has ever held that position before. With many (ok, all) family and friends telling her that she won't be able to do it, she perseveres through to become the first bunny on the force, but she soon finds that is not enough. Being on the force, she is still met with negativity from her police chief, and her first assignment is as a meter maid (much to her parents delight, since that's the safest job on the force!).

Judy Hopps learns a few valuable lessons throughout the movie, and finally thinks about throwing in towel when she thinks that she isn't helping Zootopia, a land made up of all different species of animals, and decides to go home to work on her family's carrot farm. She makes a great discovery while home, and continues to follow her dream of being a police officer so that she can help make the world better.

The movie is full of fun animal jokes, some of which young kids may not understand, but the parents will, such as "addressing the elephant in the room," which makes this a fun movie for parents and kids alike. Music with a great beat also kept the kids entertained. Lots of great messages can be taken away from this movie, too. A few of them being, "You can do anything you put your mind to" and "Don't discriminate".

My husband and I found ourselves laughing out loud at parts, and our 6-year old son loved all the fun animals and the general storyline...and of course the songs, which I found him trying to sing along to, even though it was the first time he had heard them. Once again, Disney didn't let me down. "Zootopia" is a fun movie that people of all ages can enjoy!
