When I was given a few sets of Beados to review, I was excited because as the cold weather gets here, it gets harder and harder to keep my 7-year old son occupied. He is a typical, all-American boy - rides bikes, plays soccer, runs around outside. Pretty much anything that requires movement. But I really dislike the cold weather, so I am always looking for ways to keep him entertained inside.
Beados are the answer I've been looking for. The craft takes a little patience because once it's made and sprayed with water, you need to wait about 20 minutes for it to dry, but my son had fun setting the timer on our oven and checking it often to see how much time was left.
From an "organized" mom standpoint, I love the trays with separators. It keeps the tiny beads organized by color, so it was easy for my son to get just the color he needed for the different patterns. Actually, this toy reminds me of the melty beads I used as a child, only with those, you had to fuse them together with an iron. This toy is so much better because all you need is water!
Here is a video I created to show you just how easy & fun this toy is:

My son had a great time designing gumball machines, lollipops and other candy. The candy patterns, which are part of the Beados Scoop 'n' Mix playset, were definitely his favorite, though the animal patterns that came in the Beados Animal Nursery Theme Pack came in a close second place. Now that he has gotten the hang of the process, he has moved on to designing his own patterns. I love toys and crafts that allow kids to use their imagination, and Beados does not disappoint!
Beados are available at Target, Toys r Us, and other local retailers.
