By Jennifer Schorr, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Reading March 1, 2017

Need a little help coming up with fun things for your family this month? Have no fear, Macaroni Kid has you covered.

  1. Clean out closets. It’s soon going to be consignment season, so now is a great time to go through your child(ren)’s closets and find all the spring & summer clothes that no longer fit them. Check out these upcoming local consignment sales:

  1. Replace your air filters. Your heat has been on all winter. Now is a great time to check and replace any dirty air filters.

  2. Visit the Hot Wheels Race to Win Exhibit at Reading Public Museum. Speed, power, performance . . . buckle up and race with the most famous toy vehicles on the planet—Hot Wheels! Be part of a dynamic race team working together to build and test the world’s fastest (and safest) speed machines, using Hot Wheels® diecast cars to experiment and play. This behind-the-scenes look at the thrilling world of racing investigates the scientific process for designing super-fast cars. Hands-on experiences, authentic race gear, and captivating memorabilia will engage families in the process of experimenting with speed, power, and performance using Hot Wheels cars and track as the their tools.

  1. Learn about an inspirational woman. March is National Women’s History Month. This is a great opportunity to teach your kids about some historical women who were strong and courageous, like Malala Yousafzai, Nora Ephron, or Eleanor Roosevelt.

  2. Enjoy that extra hour of daylight. We may lose an hour when we “spring forward” on March 12, but that means that we’ll be enjoying the sunshine for an hour longer each evening. How will you spend that extra hour?

  3. Take advantage of a windy day. March comes in like a lion, so dig out your kites and have fun flying them.

  4. March 28: National Something on a Stick Day. Use your imagination and celebate this day with meals on a stick. Check out our Pinterest board for some inspiration.

  5. Do your taxes. April 15 will be here before you know it. Schedule a date on your calendar to just do it and get it out of the way.

  6. Enjoy the warmer weather. We are headed into spring, so enjoy a nice spring day by trying out a new playground or park you haven’t been to before. There are tons of them in our area. Check out our Guide to Parks & Playgrounds to find some that you may not have visited before.

  7. Get a pedicure. Your toes have been hidden away all winter. With the nice weather, you’ll want to put your best foot forward. Get your feet flip-flop ready and get pampered in the process.
