"do it LOCAL" founder Heather Brady is going Over The Edge next month

August 7, 2017

Heather Brady, proud mom & founder of the "do it LOCAL" fundraising app is just one month away from going "Over the Edge" at the 525 Loft Apartments in Reading, PA. She is building up her strength and courage to rappel this building for the youth at Bethany Children's Home. Every day, the youth at Bethany Children's Home are finding their own strength to heal from their trauma and overcome their challenges. “Over the edge” shows these kids that through hard work, they can take back their lives.

Heather, along with 50+ local business owners, have bravely agreed to go "Over The Edge" to show the youth of Bethany Children's Home that through determination, we can all accomplish our goals.  Heather needs the help of my dedicated Macaroni Kid readers to raise $1000 for her campaign.  No donation is too small.  For every donation Heather receives to her OTE Campaign in the month of August, Heather will send you a complimentary membership ($25 value) to her “do it LOCAL” Berks County Deal App. https://www.givegab.com/p2p/over-the-edge-for-bethany-children-s-home-2017/heather-brady

More about my friend Heather Brady and her “do it LOCAL” App:

In the summer of 2016, Heather gave birth to her stillborn son Cameron, and had the eye-opening experience of realizing what truly mattered most in her world – putting family first. With her husband and two-year-old son Colton by her side, she took an unpaid leave from her Corporate America career in media to recover from her loss.  It was the best decision she ever made.  Priceless experiences with her family that money cannot buy. Time to reflect on life, and be thankful for all that she has.  Time with her toddler to live life through his eyes.

Heather always connected with children throughout her entire life.  At weddings, you would find her on the dance floor learning break dance moves from 6 year olds.  At picnics, you would find her by the water balloons and games.  At the beach, you will find her being buried in sand by an army of kids.   Losing Cameron and another pregnancy was tough, but it made Heather realize that it was time to make a career change that allowed her to truly put her family first.  When Heather reflects on the summer of 2016,  it’s full of emotions and determination.  Determination to use her talents, passion, and drive to make a difference.

Heather is determined to remind Berks to do everything LOCAL!  Buy local, Eat local, Shop local, Play local…. Choose local… and most of all Support Local.  Our local entrapeuners do not start businesses because they want to get rich.  They start busiensses because they want to share their passion with the world.  Ask the local restaurant owner why she started her business.  I bet her answer would have something to do with sharing her favorite recipes…. Who knows?  Those recipes could be generations old.   Heather paints the picture well “when you buy from a national chain, you are helping a CEO buy a third vacation home… but when you buy from a locally owned business, you are helping a family put food on the table and a dream become a reality!”

Heather's connection to youth only grows stronger as life takes its toll on her.  Losing loved ones over the past few years makes Heather cherish what she does have and make the most out of every single day.  Heather committed to go "Over the Edge" for the youth at Bethany Children's Home because she knows every child should have the world at their fingertips. “Every child is a gift from god.  Raising $1000 to Go Over the Edge to provide a better future for our local children here at Bethany Children’s Home is the least I can do!” – Heather Brady explains.

My Berks County Macaroni Kid reaches 10,000 subscribers, and I am hoping that 99 of you can join me this week by donating $10 each to support Heather's campaign (while enjoying your complimentary "do it LOCAL" membership as a THANK YOU from Heather for donating).   As an army of Berks County mothers, we have grown to become such a successful Macaroni Kid edition by supporting each other and aiming to raise vibrant, brave, confident, and empowered children.  In supporting Heather’s campaign, we give the kids at Bethany Children’s Home a chance to feel all these things, while supporting a local business which aims to help mothers county-wide save big and spend more time with their families.  It’s a no brainer – donate today!

Wondering how you will redeem your “do it LOCAL” app membership gift?  It's easy!  When you donate to Heather's campaign, she will get a notification from the fundraising website Give Gab.  Be sure you include your email address when you donate, and Heather will email you a personal “THANK YOU” along with a complimentary redemption code for you to redeem online at www.doitLOCALapp.com

"do it LOCAL" had a very successful launch in March with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.  Currently, the app has 60+ local deals - click here to view the updated list.  Heather and her team are committed to having over 100 deals in the app by the Fall.   Heather also has teams launching in Bucks County and Lancaster County.

More about the "do it LOCAL" app:  Local charities sell annual memberships to access our “do it LOCAL” Mobile App deals for $25.  $15 of the membership goes directly to their organization.  The idea is very similar to the old national coupon book fundraisers that schools sold, except that the app put the deals right at your fingertips (on your mobile phone), while promoting locally owned businesses (rather than national chains).  I personally love the geo-push notifications that remind you to use the deals when you are nearby a business partner, and a savings calculator that shows you how much you saved over the year.  It feels good saving money – and it feels GREAT to support local charities and local businesses!
