The Boone Area Library, located at 129 N. Mill Street in Birdsboro, has been in operation since 1963. They offer preschool, family, and teen programs as well as adult book clubs and a Mahjong group. In just the Juvenile & Teen sections alone, they have more than 200 shelves of books, CDs, DVDs, and video games, plus a magazine carousel, 5 desktop computers, 6 tablets and a charging station. Their 200 shelves of books include poetry, non-fiction books, board books, graphic novels, audiobooks, easy readers, biographies, and more.
Ever growing and adding more of what our community is looking for, in the past year the Boone Area Library has added 4 new events. Girls who Code is a club for girls in 6th grade and up. They recently held a Read Across America Event to celebrate Dr. Seuss and his books. An African American Read-In Event was added which included an elementary-level story and activity, and on Wednesdays there is a toddler and preschool story and activity hour, called Wonderful Wednesday. In order to add new programs and materials, the Boone Area Library holds a few fundraisers throughout the year: breakfast with the Easter Bunny, Duck Days in May, breakfast with Santa in December, and an annual giving campaign.
The Boone Area Library is noted for their friendly and helpful staff, who often surprise the patrons by greeting them by name. They strive to be a full-service destination and to offer the proverbial “service with a smile.” They are proud to be a vibrant hub in our community. In addition to utilizing their collections, people come to the library to use their computers, community room, book sale room, and their copy and print services.
Q&A with Lynn Gibson, Boone Area Library Children's Librarian
What is your favorite book?
It's impossible to name only one. One favorite book is Kate DiCamillo’s The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.
What are your hobbies?
Other than being a reading omnivore, I try to hike three miles every day (weather permitting).
Have you always lived in the area?
Yes, I am a native of Berks County.
Where would you travel if you could go anywhere, and have you been there before?
Through books and reading adventures, I travel around the world. Well, all I really want is a trip to Paradise, and I believe Paradise is right in our own backyard. (For real-time travel, I would love to visit Beatrix Potter’s Lake District and other destinations in the United Kingdom such as Scotland and Wales.)
