Playground Review: South Mountain Playground

North Galen & Hill Roads, Wernersville, PA 19565

What a hidden gem! This park was absolutely adorable - great equipment, nicely maintained, excellent open spaces, and tucked away in nature with a backdrop of trees and greenery. There are great stretches of open fields for running and games. The main playground has plenty of slides, swings, and climbing opportunities with basketball, tennis, AND volleyball courts nearby. My little guy especially loved the swings at the main playground - the frame is REALLY high, which means the swings can go REALLY high. He was in heaven - literally and figuratively. The enclosed curly slide was super fun and the covered bridge was a big hit as well. There is also a pavilion across the field with a mini playground that has a few toddler friendly pieces like smaller swings. But the best part of all (from a mom's standpoint) was the BATHROOM. Two actually! Legit actual bathrooms with multiple stalls and seats! Unlocked and clean. It was awesome. This playground is definitely going into our regular rotation.

Are there any bathrooms?
Yes, two bathrooms with multiple stalls and seats.

How much parking is there?
The parking lot was big, easily accessible and visible from the road, and centered between the main playground and the pavilion.

Is it handicapped accessible?
There are paved pathways from the parking lot to the various areas, which are helpful. And the bathrooms are accessible. But the playground itself doesn't have any special accessible equipment.

Are dogs allowed?
No, as per signage.

Park Amenities:
Trashcans - YES
Recycling - YES
Biking/Walking Trail - NO
Pavilion - YES
Picnic Tables - YES (6)
Benches - YES
Open fields - YES
Shade/Trees - Not a ton. The pavilion provides the majority of the shade available.
Water fountains/Vending machine - NO
Ball fields - YES (Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis)

Is there a separate area for younger children to play?
The main playground was just fine for my three year old. That being said, the mini play area by the pavilion had some nice options for little ones. Small swings, a spiderweb apparatus, and those cute little rocking-horse-on-a-spring contraptions.
