Relax, Unwind and Breathe Deeply at The Salt Lounge

By Jennifer Schorr, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Reading September 4, 2018

My daughter and I recently had the opportunity to try out The Salt Lounge, one of the newest businesses to open in Wyomissing. Before going, I knew very little about what this was. I had heard from friends that I “need to go” because it’s “so relaxing”, and that was enough to pique my interest to try it and to learn more about what this new business offers.

Halotherapy, or Salt Therapy, is an all-natural way to help a variety of respiratory ailments, such as asthma, allergies, sinus infections and colds, and even some skin conditions, too, like eczema and psoriasis. Sitting in a specially designed room, the dry salt aerosol is piped into the room, allowing your body to be immersed in the relaxing and healing experience. It's a natural way to help the body de-stress and relax, too.

As we entered The Salt Lounge, we were warmly welcomed by the owner, Rachel, who showed us to a locker where we could store our purses and shoes, and then took us back to the room we would be settling into. She explained that it gets a little cold, so we had the option of leaving our socks on or taking them off, and they had blankets we could use to cover up with, which I did end up doing. Headsets were given to each of us with a 7-minute guided meditation, which really helped to get me to forget about the running to-do list in my head and just enjoy the experience. The meditation was followed by gentle, relaxing music, all while the lights in the room are dimmed and the dry salt aerosol is piped into the room. I could not smell the salt at all, though I was able to taste it a little on my lips when we were finished. We sat in comfortable reclining chairs with our feet propped up, which only added to the relaxation I felt.

After our time was up, Rachel sat with us to explain a little more about the business and what they offer. To my surprise, The Salt Lounge offers special events not just for adults, but for children and teens, too. For children, there is a toy box and special child-sized chairs, and kids love to play in the salt (it’s like going to the beach and playing in the sand – without the mess!) Check out the full list of upcoming special events. Due to COVID, special events are not happening right now, but you can book your own PRIVATE custom meditation or Yoga Nidra session with one of their meditation instructors.

Macaroni Kid knows that parents put forth great effort in making sure their kids are well-taken care of, but when we do that, sometimes we forget about taking care of ourselves. Don’t put yourself last on your to-do list. Make yourself a top priority and schedule a session to relax and recharge at The Salt Lounge.
