Your Guide to Spring Fun in Reading, PA - Explore Parks and Trails

Spring is here, and we are ready for outdoor fun!

Spring has arrived!  My family and I are looking forward to the warmer weather.  It is a great time of the year to explore this area's Parks and Trails to get your family outside for fun activities and enjoy the weather! 





Angelica Creek Trail

Angelica Creek Trail connects to Kenhorst Borough (KenGrill Recreation Center), Angelica Creek Park, and the Schuylkill River Trail. Users can walk, bike, and enjoy the 1 mile pathway to the city-owned 90-acre Angelica Creek Park and educational wetlands. Be on the look out for wildlife along the trail!

Antietam Lake Park and Angora Fruit Farm

The origins of Antietam Lake date back to 1865 when Reading purchased a dam and gristmill on Antietam Creek, with a waterfall now flowing over the 60-foot high solid rock. Antietam Lake is surrounded by 665 acres of park land and there are over 12 miles of interconnecting trails at Antietam Lake Park. The 22-acre Angora Fruit Farm in the center of the park provides an outdoor classroom for year-round environmental education programs.

Blue Marsh Lake Recreation Area

Blue Marsh Lake offers 36 miles of trails with 1,147 acres of water for boating and fishing, and 5000 acres of land containing hiking trails, picnic areas, and a beach and boat launches. Part of the Greater Reading Trail System, the recreation area’s trails are great for biking, walking, hiking, and horseback riding. The Visitor Center overlooks the dam tower, delivering a spectacular view of the lake.

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary

At Hawk Mountain Sanctuary visitors can hike over 12 miles of trails, and reach heights that provide astounding views of the Berks county area. Visitors are also encouraged to visit the native plant garden where they can view the beautiful plants that are local to this area, stop at the pond to look for amphibians and turtle, and take pictures.

Red Bridge Recreation Area 

2141 Tulpehocken Rd. Wyomissing PA 19610

The Red Bridge, originally known as Wertz's Bridge, at 202 feet (floor), and 218 feet, 7 inches (portal to portal) is the longest single span covered bridge in Pennsylvania. Built in 1867 and one of five remaining in Berks County, the covered bridge allows pedestrians to pass over the Tulpehocken Creek to the Union Canal Bicycle and Walking Trail and the Berks County Heritage Center. The Red Bridge Recreation Area, located just south of Wertz's Bridge on Tulpehocken Road, consists of a picnic pavilion and badminton court.
