It’s fall, which means wrapping up in blankets on Friday nights to watch a local football game, visiting a local pumpkin patch to find the *perfect* pumpkin for your family, and great fall scents like apple, pumpkin spice and CINNAMON!
Cinnamon can add that special extra touch to many foods and drinks (and one of my favorites is listed below), but there are other ways we can use cinnamon, too. Read on…
- Breakfast or Dessert Treat. There is nothing quite as scrumptious as a freshly baked cinnamon roll with gooey icing. In fact, that’s our special breakfast every Christmas morning, a tradition I carried on from my own family Christmas's growing up. But for fall, try this Pumpkin Cake with Cinnamon Whipped Icing! Want to bring a fancy looking dessert to your next fall get-together? Try this Elegant Twist Cinnamon Coffee Cake.
- Make a Sachet. You can buy small bags at the dollar store in the favor aisle. Fill each one with a mixture of broken-up cinnamon sticks, cloves, and rosemary, and then place them in your dresser drawers. Cinnamon is known for helping to deter moths, and these sachets smell much better than mothballs.
- Scented Pinecone Turkey Craft. To make scented pinecones, you line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, place the pinecones on the baking sheet and bake them at 200 degrees for 30 minutes. When you take them out of the oven, place them in a plastic bag you can seal with 20-30 drops of cinnamon oil. Shake the bag around gently to make sure the pinecones are all covered, and then let the bag sit for 2 weeks. Take the pinecones out and then follow the instructions for this Pinecone Turkey Craft. These could easily be used as place card holders for your Thanksgiving table.
- Let your Home Smell like Fall. You can add a couple of drops of cinnamon oil to a lightbulb before you turn it on, and pretty soon you’ll have the lovely scent of cinnamon wafting through the room. Or you can try this DIY Scent Simmer to make your house smell delicious!
- DIY Face Mask. There are many benefits of using cinnamon on your face: anti-acne, erase fine lines, and it can help to relieve the irritation that comes with eczema. Just mix 1 teaspoon of cinnamon with 2 tablespoons of honey, and apply the mixture to your face. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes, and then wash it off with warm water.
As you can see, whether it's on your face, in your mouth or making your home smell wonderful, there are many different uses for cinnamon!
